BROWN SPLATTER TWIST HANDLE PITCHER

The brown splatter twist handle pitcher is a statement piece with its stunning silhouette and twisted handle. Originally this style was used for wine, but at THE SLOW HUT we use it for water or as a vase for flowers. It comes with matching mugs as part of the Brown Splatter Ceramics collection.

Every pitcher is made by hand and therefore not two are completely alike. The production of ceramics is a very old and slow process. It takes three-six weeks for it to dry depending on the season. Once dried it’s burnt before and after being glazed and then the splatters are added before being burnt for the third and final time. All together the production time is about three months.

The splatter technique was traditionally a cheap way of decorating simple everyday objects. The splatter effect is achieved through a traditional method where a small bunch of reeds is used to splash the brown glazes onto the pitcher as it is turned by hand. The pattern and strength of colors therefore depends on the ceramic’s makers mood and will turn out differently. This is the charm of everything being made by hand.
